Which Sur-Ron Should I Buy?
Compare the Sur-Ron Hyper Bee, Light Bee X, new Light Bee 2 X and Ultra Bee by rider fit, experience, power, weight and intended use.
Which Sur-Ron model is best?
Choose the Hyper Bee for experienced smaller riders who need a compact chassis, the Light Bee X 10kW for all-round value, the new Light Bee 2 X 24kW for experienced riders wanting more performance in the Light Bee range, and the Ultra Bee for a larger motorcycle-style platform.
The correct choice depends more on physical fit, strength and riding experience than age alone.
For a rider who fits the Light Bee platform, the main decision is now Light Bee X or Light Bee 2 X? The 10kW bike remains our all-round value recommendation; the 24kW model is the performance option for riders with the experience to use it. Choose the Sur-Ron Hyper Bee if size matters most
Best for experienced smaller riders who need a lower, lighter chassis
The Hyper Bee is Sur-Ron’s compact performance model, positioned between large electric balance bikes and the full-size Light Bee X.
The current bike combines an 8kW power system, 58V 22Ah battery, approximately 185Nm / 136ft-lb maximum wheel torque, approximately 39kg curb weight and an adjustable seat-height range of approximately 665–705mm.
It is the best choice when the rider has enough experience for serious performance but cannot confidently support or manoeuvre the larger Light Bee X.
Choose the Hyper Bee if:
- The rider already has powered-bike experience
- The Light Bee X is physically too tall or heavy
- The rider has the fit and ability for a substantial step up from a youth bike
- You want the easiest Sur-Ron to transport
- Compact handling matters more than maximum size
Do not choose it if:
- The rider is completely new to powered bikes
- They cannot support approximately 39kg
- A taller adult riding position is required
- Maximum battery capacity is the main priority
- The rider already fits a full-size bike comfortably
Choose the Light Bee X 10kW for all-round value
Best for suitably experienced older teenagers and adults who fit the bike
The Light Bee X is the model most riders associate with Sur-Ron. It provides significantly more physical room than the Hyper Bee without moving into the full size and weight of the Ultra Bee.
The latest model uses a 72V 35Ah battery, produces up to 10kW maximum power and uses a full-size 19-inch front and 18-inch rear wheel setup.
It remains a strong choice for a rider who can confidently manage its approximately 830mm seat height and 59kg chassis. If you already have substantial off-road experience and want more performance, compare it with the new 24kW Light Bee 2 X before deciding.
Choose the Light Bee X if:
- The rider is an older teenager or adult
- You want capable performance with a focus on value
- The rider can manage its height and weight
- Battery capacity and long-term use matter
- You want access to a large upgrade market
Do not choose it if:
- The rider cannot confidently support the bike
- The approximately 830mm seat is too tall
- You need the lightest and easiest option
- The rider is moving directly from a small youth bike
- A compact track is the only intended riding area
Choose the Light Bee 2 X for the next step in performance
Best for experienced off-road riders wanting more from a Light Bee
The Sur-Ron Light Bee 2 X gives experienced riders another option between the familiar 10kW Light Bee X and the larger Ultra Bee. It deserves its own place in the comparison: this is a new model with its own specification.
Key figures are 24kW maximum power, a 78.54V 45Ah semi-solid-state battery, 410Nm maximum wheel torque and 65kg kerb weight. Its published seat height remains 830mm.
Our recommendation is to consider it when you already fit a Light Bee and have the braking, balance and throttle control for a substantial performance increase. The same seat height does not make it equivalent to the 10kW bike in rider suitability.
Choose the Light Bee 2 X if:
- You already have confident off-road riding skills
- You want more performance within the Light Bee range
- You can support and manoeuvre the bike comfortably
- You want to compare a new bike before modifying your current one
- A larger Ultra Bee chassis is not your main priority
Consider another model if:
- You are learning basic powered-bike control
- You are choosing mainly by maximum power
- The bike feels too tall or heavy
- The 10kW model already meets your riding needs
- You specifically want a larger motorcycle riding position

Maximum power is a peak rating, not continuous output. A higher peak figure does not mean the bike is proportionally faster or equally suitable for the same rider.
Choose the Ultra Bee for a full motorcycle-style platform
Best for experienced adult off-road riders
The Ultra Bee offers a larger motorcycle-style platform than either Light Bee model. It provides a more conventional motorcycle-style riding position, greater stability and a chassis designed for more demanding off-road riding.
It makes the most sense for experienced riders who specifically want a larger machine rather than simply the highest number on a specification sheet.
Current Ultra Bee versions vary by market and specification, so buyers should compare the exact model rather than relying on a single generic power figure.
Choose the Ultra Bee if:
- You already have substantial off-road experience
- You want a larger motorcycle-style chassis
- You ride open, rough or faster terrain
- High-speed stability matters more than low weight
- You are a larger or stronger adult rider
Do not choose it if:
- This will be your first powered off-road bike
- The rider is younger or physically small
- Ease of transport is a priority
- You ride mainly in small or tight areas
- You would prefer a lighter and more agile platform
My recommendation as a British motocross rider
Do not automatically buy the most powerful Sur-Ron available. A rider will normally progress faster on a bike they can comfortably support, turn and recover after a mistake.
The Hyper Bee makes sense when an experienced smaller rider needs a compact chassis. The 10kW Light Bee X remains my all-round value recommendation for riders who fit it. The new Light Bee 2 X is the option I would consider for someone who already has the skills and wants more performance within the Light Bee range.
The Ultra Bee is the correct choice when the rider already has the experience and specifically wants something closer to a conventional off-road motorcycle.
Choose by physical fit and ability first. Compare power and battery capacity after confirming the rider can confidently handle the bike.
Which Sur-Ron should you buy by rider type?
| Rider Type | Recommended Model | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Moving up from a Revvi 20 | Usually Hyper Bee | A compact motorcycle-style progression step without immediately moving to the larger Light Bee X. |
| Moving up from a Revvi 24 | Usually Hyper Bee | A smaller chassis than the Light Bee models, but still a substantial step in performance and weight. |
| Moving up from an Amped A24 Comp | Usually Hyper Bee | A substantial performance step that requires a fresh assessment of fit and control. |
| Capable smaller teenager | Hyper Bee | Lower, lighter and easier to support than the Light Bee X. |
| Tall and experienced older teenager | Usually Light Bee X | Offers more cockpit space and better long-term suitability. |
| First Sur-Ron for an adult | Usually Light Bee X | The strongest balance of adult fit, performance and manageability. |
| Smaller adult rider | Hyper Bee or Light Bee X | Hyper Bee for compact handling; Light Bee X for more room and battery capacity. |
| Adult trail rider | Light Bee X | Versatile, relatively lightweight and suitable for a wide range of off-road riding. |
| Experienced rider wanting more Light Bee performance | Light Bee 2 X | A performance-focused option when the rider fits the bike and can confidently manage the step up. |
| Experienced motocross rider wanting a larger chassis | Ultra Bee | The larger chassis offers a more conventional motorcycle feel and greater stability. |
| Maximum portability | Hyper Bee | At approximately 39kg, it is considerably easier to transport than the larger models. |
Three questions to answer before buying
Can the rider support it?
They should be able to hold the bike upright, stop on uneven ground and reposition it without being immediately overwhelmed by the weight.
Can the rider control it?
Consider throttle discipline, braking ability, maturity and previous experience rather than assuming a smaller electric bike is a beginner bike.
Where will it be ridden?
Tight riding areas may favour a smaller and lighter bike, while open or faster terrain may suit a larger and more stable platform.
Our final buying recommendation

When the rider has suitable experience but requires a lower, lighter and more compact bike than the Light Bee X.
Buy the Light Bee X 10kW
When the rider fits the bike and wants our all-round value choice within the Light Bee range.
